🟪 Equipment Status: VHS Video Tape Deck Repair

Our high-quality VHS video tape deck is currently out for repair. This deck is a high quality deck which members can use to digitize their VHS, S-VHS tapes, and Compact VHS tapes.

This equipment should be back in the tech room in July. We have an older model available to use right now, but if you can wait for the primary deck to be repaired, the quality of your transfer will be much better.

Educational Update: A class is being planned for those interested in learning how to use it, look for that coming soon.

🟪 Coming Soon: Digitize Your Life & Shutterfly Series

Get ready for the continuation of our Digitize Your Life Series! Planning is fully underway for an extended series coming up soon.

Topics will cover everything from scanning and digitizing your photos to strategies on how to preserve and protect your precious photos and videos. We will also touch on both simple and advanced photo editing, video editing, and more.

Additionally, we are planning a new Shutterfly class series coming this fall. All these classes blend techniques so you can preserve your memories and create truly meaningful gifts for your family and friends.

🟧 Personal Technical Assistance: Monitors Available

Many SBR residents encounter challenges when using their phones and computers. The Technology Club has a team of expert monitors who are available to help resolve your technical problems. Over 400 residents work with our monitors each year, so the team is a valuable resource for the community.

Our monitors have a wide range of expertise including: Windows and Mac operating systems, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Apple Watch, home networking, online security, password management, photography, photo editing, and scanning.

Club members can schedule time to meet with a monitor in the Tech Room for personal assistance. The club also offers walk-in sessions on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month for non-members. No appointments are needed for the walk-in sessions.

Upcoming monitor sessions are listed on the club's homepage and on the monthly calendar on the club's website.

We are always looking for more monitors and Speakers or Facilitators for workshops. Whether your interest is in Drones, AI, Photography, Video, Macs, PCs, Smart Home Tech, Smart Watches, EVs, 3D Printing, Scanning, or Video Capture — we need you!

Monitoring is simple, fun, and our members truly appreciate the support. Questions? Contact our Monitor Lead.

Digitize Your History: Estate Planning in the Digital Age

Most of us have spent years organizing our finances, property, and legal documents. But today we also have digital lives that need attention. What happens to your personal cloud storage files, online banking setup, email accounts, photographs, or custom files when you pass?

Why Archival Actions Matter

Many legacy plans were arranged before our day-to-day accounts shifted completely online. Without planning ahead, families can encounter major technical blocks accessing:

  • Online financial and investment accounts
  • Private email systems and personal cloud storage drives
  • Irreplaceable family photos and digital archives
  • Social media profiles and digital memory assets

A well-prepared strategy helps guarantee these digital collections are organized properly, saving your family confusing tech steps later. The SBR Technology Club provides the scanning equipment and workspace to help you secure your modern digital legacy.

We value your input! Email any board member or Dan Heilman at Education@SBRTechnology.club.
